Kaitlyn Bristowe Drops New Single Lonely in Love on 40th Birthday

Former Bachelorette Kaitlyn Bristowe celebrated her milestone 40th birthday with the release of her third music single.

“I wrote a ballad. Have you ever been lonely in love? It’s a really sad, hard, heartbreaking feeling,” Bristowe wrote via Instagram on Thursday, June 19, sharing the single’s artwork, which featured Bristowe sitting naked in a bathtub with smeared eye makeup running down her cheeks. “I love writing and singing about things I can reflect on. Things that broke me and built me.”

She added, “Recently, I had @melrobbins on my podcast. She had me promise her that I would create more music. I told her I had a fear of looking stupid. I tell myself, ‘You’re not a singer.’ And if someone wants to make me feel stupid, ‘Let them.’ But I am a singer. I’m also a writer, and I’m also 40 today. [I am] continuing to always push myself to get comfortable being uncomfortable. I hope this song makes you feel something. Either empowered to leave, proud you got out, or just simply going through something right now that could also pass.”

As Bristowe’s caption indicates, the track is all about navigating the end of a relationship.

“Perfect / If you just looked at the pictures, it was perfect,” she sings. “If you took the time / to look behind the curtain / you’d see the reason I felt stranded.”

She continues, “You took my heart and everything for granted / And I just ran through the motions / Burned out and broken / You’d think you’d notice me / Lying awake in a bed we just sleep in / dreaming of reasons to not give it up.”

While Bristowe hasn’t shared her lyrical muse, she was last engaged to fellow Bachelor Nation alum Jason Tartick. They split in August 2023 after four years together.

“After sharing the news with family and close friends first, and taking the time to properly process it ourselves, we are saddened with heavy hearts to share that we have decided to end our engagement,” Bristowe and Tartick, now 36, wrote in a joint statement. “We are thankful for all of you who gave us the time and space to process this life-altering decision as there are many emotions and changes to navigate.”

They continued, “Continuing our friendship is incredibly important to both of us. We feel grateful to be ending our engagement with love and respect for each other. It’s heartbreaking and sad to say goodbye, but our care and admiration for one another will never die.”

Bristowe and Tartick initially planned to share custody of their two golden retrievers, Ramen and Pinot, which lasted nearly a year. The “Off the Vine” podcaster now has full ownership of the pups, while Tartick recently adopted a new dog, Teddy, on his own.

Bristowe previously made her music debut in 2020, releasing “Good for Somebody” and “If I’m Being Honest,” the latter of which was about her breakup from ex-fiancé Shawn Booth. (Bristowe got engaged to Booth, now 38, on her season of The Bachelorette in 2015. They split three years later.)

“Lucky in Love” also features a brief nod to “If I’m Being Honest.”

“Honest / If I’m being honest / I knew better,” she sings, quoting her previous song’s title. “You sold a broken promise / and I bought it because I wanted all the things we talked about.”

Bristowe has been more tight-lipped about her dating life since ending her engagement to Tartick. In April, she teased to People that she was “definitely dating and happy” without elaborating further details amid speculation that she’s been linked to Bachelor Nation alum Zac Clark. (Clark, 41, was previously engaged to season 16 Bachelorette Tayshia Adams.)

He was also among Bristowe’s inner circle to celebrate her new music on Thursday.

“Happy Birthday, Moon. This is brave, great song,” Clark commented. “Keep Going.”
