West Indies players brutally punished by ICC for shocking act during South Africa clash

West Indies women's team cricketers Aaliyah Alleyne and Qiana Joseph breached Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct during the second ODI match against South Africa. Aaliyah Alleyne and Qiana Joseph received a fine of their match fee and accepted the penalties imposed by the match officials without contest.

South Africa Women secured a 40-run win over West Indies Women in the second ODI of the three-match series in Cave Hill, Barbados, on June 14. Sent into bat, South Africa posted a massive total of 309 for 9 in 50 overs. In response, the West Indies were bowled out for 269 on the final delivery of the innings.

Aaliyah Alleyne and Qiana Joseph have been found guilty of breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct. According to an official statement from the ICC, both players violated Article 2.8 of the Code of Conduct during the game.

"The two players were individually cited in the second ODI against South Africa in Barbados, breaching Article 2.8 of the Code of Conduct for Players Support Personnel, in relation to showing dissent at an umpires decision during an international match," a statement from the ICC said.

Aaliyah Alleyne and Qiana Joseph Fined for Showing Dissent

Aaliyah Alleyne has been fined 10 percent of her match fee and given one demerit point for showing dissent after being dismissed. She reacted by gesturing with open arms and delaying her departure from the field following the umpire’s decision.

"Alleyne was fined 10 per cent of her match fee and handed a single demerit point to her disciplinary record after a gesture with open arms and delaying her walk off the field, after she was ruled out by the on-field umpires," the statement added.

Qiana Joseph received a harsher penalty for a display of dissent during the same match. She was fined 50 percent of her match fee and handed two demerit points for her actions.

"Joseph was found guilty of the same offence in a more forceful manner, and thus fined half her match fee and handed two demerit points for the indiscretion."

Alleyne and Joseph Accept Sanctions from ICC Match Referee Akhtar Ahmad

The charges against Aaliyah Alleyne and Qiana Joseph were brought by on-field umpires Jacqueline Williams and Nimali Perera, with third umpire Candace la Borde and fourth umpire Maria Abbott also involved in the decision.

Both West Indies players admitted to their breaches of conduct and accepted the penalties proposed by match referee Akhtar Ahmad, a member of the Emirates ICC International Panel of Match Referees.

Alleyne scored just one run off 6 balls with the bat and picked up one wicket for 62 runs in her eight overs. Joseph added 17 runs off 19 balls while conceding 13 runs in her only over during the match.
