Saratoga man enhances travel photography skills in Dubai

Traveling photographer

A Saratoga man is in Dubai as the only American accepted to an academy that nurtures tourism photography.

Ethan Chang is a 21-year-old photographer and filmmaker who specializes in travel, commercial and cinematic media. He earned a spot in the first cohort of Beautiful Destinations Academy, an institution partnered with the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism that aims to support breakthrough creative talent in travel and tourism content marketing.

The program gives creators hands-on mentorship, production experience and collaboration opportunities with brands around the world. The students will be able to live and work in Dubai and receive a certificate of participation from the Dubai College of Tourism upon completing the program.

Chang began his visual storytelling journey in high school as a music producer when he wanted to shoot his own album cover. He then worked for tourism boards and brands worldwide, like Visit Saudi Arabia, Honda, Sony, PolarPro and DJI. Chang has a creative platform called Selmshots for his travel visuals. He is a student at the University of Southern California.

“His work is deeply intentional, shaped by the belief that great stories are not only beautifully shot but emotionally grounded,” reads a press release about his acceptance into Beautiful Destinations Academy.

    Community garden

The El Quito Park Community Garden is open, with garden plots available for rental. The space allows Saratoga residents to grow fresh produce, connect with neighbors and enjoy the outdoors.

Garden plots are available on a first-come, first-served basis, with priority given to Saratoga residents through June 23. They can be rented from June to Dec. 21.

A bed plot is $45, and an additional plot is $25. Interested residents can apply at form.jotform.com/251495659462065.

    Foothill Club open house

The Saratoga Foothill Club Historic Landmark Foundation will be hosting an open house on June 22 to celebrate the completion of the six-year restoration of its clubhouse.

The clubhouse was designed by Julia Morgan, the first female architect licensed in Saratoga. Annette Stransky with the Saratoga Historical Foundation said the building has had some upgrades and restructuring but was largely kept closely with Morgan’s design. She highlighted Morgan’s effort to making the place special, especially for women.

At the open house, the club will showcase its mission and charitable work. Light refreshments and activities will be provided at the event, which runs 3-5 p.m. at 20399 Park Place, Saratoga.
