The 2025 Monte Carlo TV Festival, held annually in Monaco, had its closing ceremony on Tuesday evening, June 17. Presiding over the ceremony were Albert II, Prince of Monaco, and Princess Charlene, his wife.
The princess definitely channeled her late mother-in-law, U.S. Oscar-winner Grace Kelly.
Kelly famously met Prince Rainier III of Monaco at the Cannes Film Festival in 1955. They married a year later and had three children — Princess Caroline, born in 1957, Prince Albert, born in 1958, and Princess Stephanie, born in 1965. As Princess of Monaco, Princess Grace stopped acting and became heavily involved in philanthropic work.
Tragically, in 1982, Princess Grace, then 52, suffered a mild cerebral hemorrhage while driving and lost control of her car. It dove off a steep cliff, and she and daughter Stephanie were taken to the hospital with severe injuries. Princess Grace suffered a second, more severe, hemorrhage at the hospital and was taken off life support the following day. Princess Stephanie, then 17, was unable to attend the funeral due to her injuries.
Prince Rainier never remarried and was buried alongside Princess Grace when he died in 2005.

Princess Charlene, 47, is Prince Albert's, 67, first wife because he did not settle down until quite later in life. They met in 2000 when she was swimming for South Africa and was competing in Monaco. They married in 2011, and Princess Charlene gave birth to their twins, Princess Gabriella, Countess of Carlades, and Jacques, Hereditary Prince of Monaco, in December 2014.
In 2024, Prince Albert spoke with People about the awards he created in his mother's honor that champion emerging talents in the arts.
"I think she would be incredibly proud and thrilled that her legacy has continued this way, and that the foundation and its awards has had a tremendous life-changing impact on these artists. They've all expressed that. The appreciation by these young artists is really touching — it creates a community. We stay in touch with our alumni to see how they're doing, and it's an incredible satisfaction to see that they are still connected to the foundation and are thankful for what the foundation has brought to them," said the Prince.
