South Africa’s WTC Final heroes storm ICC Test Rankings

Just days after clinching the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2025 title in style, the South Africa National Cricket Team got another big reason to celebrate, as their players made a massive jump in the latest ICC Men’s Test Player Rankings shared on Wednesday (June 18).

Several players of South Africa’s historic WTC triumph at Lord’s have received major boosts, thanks to their stunning performances in the final against Australia. Notably, the Proteas side crushed Australia by five wickets in the WTC Final 2025 to lift their first ICC title after 27 years last week.

Aiden Markram, who stole the show with a match-winning 136 off 207 balls during South Africa’s successful chase in the WTC Final 2025 against Australia, has jumped seven places in the latest rankings.

Markram is currently ranked seventh with 723 rating points in the ICC Men’s Test Batting Ranking, only two rating points behind the 10th-ranked New Zealander Daryl Mitchell.

Not just that, the Proteas all-rounder, who also picked up two crucial wickets in the final, has stunningly jumped 44 spots in the all-rounders list. However, Markram still stands in the 65th position with 49 rating points, with Ravindra Jadeja leading the table with 400 rating points.

David Bedingham and Lungi Ngidi make big gains

South Africa’s middle-order batter David Bedingham, who stayed till the end and sealed the win for South Africa in the WTC Final 2025, has also enjoyed a rise in the updated rankings. He climbed 17 places to reach the 40th spot in the batting rankings, equalling Australia’s Cameron Green.

On the other hand, South African pacer Lungi Ngidi was also rewarded for his remarkable performance against Australia in the final. He moved up seven positions to reach 37th, now sharing the spot with Lahiru Kumara and Naseem Shah with 526 rating points.

Ngidi scalped three wickets in Australia’s second innings at the Lord’s. Ace South Africa pacer Kagiso Rabada, who delivered a stellar spell in the final (5/51 and 4/59), continues to hold on to his No. 2 rank in the ICC Test Bowling Rankings, just behind the top-ranked India pacer Jasprit Bumrah.

Mitchell Starc and Beau Webster shine in the ICC Test Rankings despite Australia’s defeat.

Australian fast bowler Mitchell Starc, who claimed five wickets in the WTC Final 2025 and scored a gritty half-century in the second innings against the Proteas, has broken into the top 10 in both the ICC Test Bowling Rankings and ICC Test All-rounder Rankings.
