Ravichandran Ashwin and his team, Dindigul Dragons, have been cleared of the ball-tampering charges by the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL). They were accused of ball-tampering by the Siechem Madurai Panthers.
The Madurai-based outfit had alleged that Ravichandran Ashwin and his teammates had tampered with the ball using chemical-laced towels during the game between the two teams on Saturday (June 14).
However, the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) has given Ravichandran Ashwin and Dindigul Dragons a clean chit by saying that its review found no evidence of ball-tampering.
"The towels in question were TNCA-issued and equally available to both teams," the TNPL CEO Prasanna Kannan said in a statement. "The Playing Control Team-including umpires and the match referee-maintained full oversight of the ball throughout the match. No concerns were raised during play, and no verifiable evidence has been provided. The claims appear speculative and post-facto in nature."

TNCA cautions that baseless or defamatory allegations may lead to disciplinary action - TNCA
While the TNPL's ruling has gone in Dindigul Dragons' favour, Siechem Madurai Panthers have the option to explore an independent enquiry on the issue.
The franchise will have to submit a formal request by 3 PM on Tuesday (June 17) in case it wants an independent enquiry. At the same time, the move could backfire if the independent enquiry also fails to prove the allegations.
"TNCA cautions that baseless or defamatory allegations may lead to disciplinary action under the TNCA Code of Conduct and Operational Rules," stated the TNCA.
