Real Madrid working on signing another Liverpool star for free next summer after Trent Alexander-Arnold

Ibrahima Konate could reportedly be next to swap Liverpool for Real Madrid at the end of his contract.

The French centre-back has one year remaining on his deal at Anfield and could therefore be free to play elsewhere in the 2026/27 season.

Liverpool couldn’t keep hold of Trent Alexander-Arnold this summer as he completed a move to Madrid.

talkSPORT understands the Reds will have banked £10million despite the right-back departing upon the expiration of his contract.

And Konate could follow in his footsteps in 2026 as Liverpool face the prospect of losing a key defender.

Spanish outlet MARCA report that the France international is a target for Madrid as they bid to capitalise on his contract expiration.

They also say that Konate has rejected a renewal offer from Liverpool.

Arsenal left-back Myles Lewis-Skelly is another end-of-contract option alongside Valencia centre-back Cristhian Mosquera.

Konate joined Liverpool from RB Leipzig in 2021 and has featured 132 times for them in all competitions since.

The 26-year-old is a Premier League, FA Cup, Community Shield and two-time Carabao Cup winner with the Reds.

Much of Liverpool’s success has come from Konate partnering Virgil van Dijk at the centre of their defence.

Should he move to Madrid, he would be set to play alongside Dean Huijsen, who completed a £50m move from Bournemouth earlier this summer.

Alexander-Arnold was officially unveiled on Thursday and delivered his introductory speech in Spanish.

He will take the no.12 shirt in what is a drastic change from the no.66 that he donned at Liverpool.

The 26-year-old has departed his boyhood club after two decades and unwavering success.

Alexander-Arnold was part of two Premier League title-winning sides and lifted the Champions League in 2019.

However, his Liverpool exit was far from perfect as fans loudly booed him at Anfield after he revealed his decision to leave.

Despite this, he said he felt happy with the way he went out and ‘couldn’t say a bad word’ about it.
