Fashion Week San Diego launched a new season with its Spring Showcase at The Living Room La Jolla on April 26. This marks FWSD’s 18th year, and the event offered a stylish preview of what’s to come at the fall runway show in October. Designers from around the world were featured in this kickoff that serves as a launching pad for emerging talent.
The show was hosted by commentator Jonathan Harris and meteorologist Jodie Kodesh. They introduced FWSD’s executive director, Gwendolyn Bates, who welcomed the audience. Guests were treated to performances by Abla Hamza from Opera A la Carte, singing “Tightrope” from “The Greatest Showman” and “Think of Me” from “Phantom of the Opera,” a crowd-pleaser.
The fashion show began with a sneak peek of the designers to be featured in the October showcase. The runway included looks from Thread & Seek, Zeglio (a custom clothier), Downtown 10 Jewelry, and a 13-year-old fashion designer, Matthew Mucha. The lineup continued with Mstr Stag, who is redefining luxury through sustainability and elegance; ComeUnity, a premium green product company; J2911 Style, a semi-sustainable brand that incorporates recycled goods into her designs; GFash, whose motto is making women feel “fabulous” with each product; bridal stylist Angel Tan; the Beatia Collection, known as a visionary for sustainable and vegan luxury fashion. The couture designs of Caroline Williard followed, and the fashion show ended with the luxury creations of Lizz Russell. To purchase tickets for the upcoming fashion show, visit bit.ly/4j7l3Mw.

Visions Museum of Textile Art hosted Threads of Time, a sold-out fundraiser on April 26. The event included a silent auction and live auctions featuring beautiful works of textile art.
A highlight of the evening was the Wearable Art Show, created in partnership with the Mesa College fashion program. Students designed original garments inspired by historical events and re-imagined them for today’s fashion scene.
Guests also enjoyed food and drinks and were invited to join in hands-on art experiences, creating and exploring textile techniques firsthand. For more information on Visions Museum of Textile Art, visit: vmota.org/.
