‘Top Chef’ Finalists Reveal Their Favorite Dishes the Judges Made for the Finale Dinner (Exclusive)

Tristen Epps, Bailey Sullivan and Shuai Wang cooked some epic meals throughout this season of Top Chef. And the final three were treated to an epic meal of their own before their final elimination challenge in Milan, Italy.

During the Season 22 finale, judges Kristen Kish, Gail Simmons and Tom Colicchio threw an epic dinner party that included tortellini in brodo (broth) with white truffle, porchetta, roasted vegetables and an anchovy and chicory salad.

“That was the coolest experience ever,” Sullivan exclusively tells Parade following the final Top Chef competition. “I've seen other Top Chef finales, and I wasn't expecting them to be cooking. When we pulled up to this incredible residence, we all were like, ‘Is this a restaurant? Is this somebody's house? What is this? It's beautiful.’ So just to be able to spend some time enjoying all the beautiful food they made us and sitting at a table, instead of standing across from them — sitting at a table judging us — was really nice.”

Adds Wang, “That was a very fun dinner. The whole experience is such a whirlwind because you're constantly just flying around and running around and cooking. The judges are judging you, and you don't really get to talk to them. So it was nice to sit down and talk to them. The food was delicious. I still keep thinking about that tart that Gail made in the end. Oh my god, it was so good.”

As for the other contestants’ favorite parts of the meal, Sullivan loved Simmons’ chicory salad with Roman vinaigrette. “I mean, the chicory in Italy is just insane,” she says. “Oh my gosh, so good!”

Epps loved Colicchio’s beans, which he says “tasted like Southern soup beans,” adding, “They were so good.”

Epps says that the dinner with the judges ahead of the final challenge was “probably the most human experience I had the entire time there.”

He adds, “It felt amazing to be amongst people that I felt like I'd known a long time, even though three of them have been judging me another time, and the other [contestants] have been, like, having anxiety attacks with me. It was a beautiful trauma bond that all came together.

"It was super humanizing, to eat food at a table, which is what food is for, right? Bring people together. Bailey was looking sexy! She got to dress up. Shuai smelling really good that day! I got to wear clothes! It was really good. And to sit there and eat food, it was delicious.”
