Millions attend No Kings protest in streets, parks and plazas across the US

On June 14, 2025, millions of Americans participated in the "No Kings" protests, a nationwide demonstration against the policies of President Donald Trump. Organized by the 50501 Movement, these protests were held in nearly 2,000 locations across more than 300 cities and towns, including major urban centers such as New York City and Los Angeles . The scale of participation was unprecedented, with reports indicating tens of thousands gathering on Fifth Avenue in New York and over 100,000 demonstrators in Los Angeles. This extensive mobilization underscores the heightened political engagement among citizens discontented with current governmental practices.

The “No Kings” rallies were organized in nearly 2,000 locations nationwide, including cities, towns, and community spaces.

These protests followed recent unrest over federal immigration raids and Trump’s deployment of the National Guard and Marines to Los Angeles, where tensions escalated with protesters blocking a freeway and setting vehicles on fire.

In Minnesota, where a gunman shot and killed a state lawmaker and her husband and gravely injured a state senator and his wife on Saturday, demonstrators came out to protest despite the events being officially canceled. Several protesters noted that it was important to show courage on a frightening day.

The demonstrations follow more than a week of large-scale protests in Los Angeles against Mr. Trump’s immigration crackdown and his decision to deploy the military there.

Trump was in Washington for a military parade marking the Army’s 250th anniversary that coincides with the president’s birthday. About 200 protesters assembled in northwest Washington’s Logan Circle and chanted “Trump must go now” before erupting in cheers. A larger-than-life puppet of Trump — a caricature of the president wearing a crown and sitting on a golden toilet — was wheeled through the crowd.

In some places, organizers handed out little American flags while others flew their flags upside down, a sign of distress. Mexican flags, which have become a fixture of the Los Angeles protests against immigration raids, also made an appearance at some demonstrations Saturday.

The "No Kings" rallies focused on various issues concerning Trump's administration, particularly immigration policies and controversial executive orders. Participants voiced their concerns about perceived injustices and authoritarian tendencies within the government . Moreover, state officials took proactive measures to ensure that these demonstrations proceeded peacefully. National Guard troops were deployed in states like Virginia and Texas to maintain order while safeguarding protesters' rights .

This significant public outcry reflects a broader societal demand for accountability and democratic values. The sheer number of participants illustrates a collective rejection of what many view as undemocratic governance. As Americans continue to engage in civic activism through such large-scale protests, it becomes evident that public sentiment plays a crucial role in shaping political discourse and policy direction within the United States.
