Koraput: Suchismita Parija, Assistant Engineer (AE) of Lamtaput Block, Koraput District, was apprehended by Odisha Vigilance today for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs. 8,000.
The incident occurred at her government residential quarters in Lamtaput, where she was caught red-handed accepting the final installment of a Rs. 15,000 bribe from a village mate.
The bribe was demanded to facilitate the release of payment for laborers engaged in ghat cutting work under the MGNREGA scheme.
According to Vigilance officials, Parija had previously received Rs. 5,000 from the complainant and was pressuring them to pay the remaining Rs. 10,000, later reduced to Rs. 8,000, to process the bill.
Frustrated by the harassment, the complainant reported the matter to Odisha Vigilance.
The entire bribe amount of Rs. 8,000 was recovered from Parija’s possession and seized.
Simultaneous searches are underway at three locations linked to the accused to investigate potential disproportionate assets.
A case has been registered against Smt. Parija under Koraput Vigilance PS Case No. 22, dated June 9, 2025, under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018.
