Jamie Foxx was raw with emotion during his sentimental speech at the 2025 BET Awards on Monday night.
The multi-hyphenate actor/musician, 57, accepted the inaugural Ultimate Icon honor at the 25th annual awards show on June 9, 2025, barely leaving a dry eye in the room as he reflected on what he's been through over the past couple of years.
Presented by Stevie Wonder, the award honored Foxx as an entertainment legend, along with Mariah Carey, Snoop Dogg, and Kirk Franklin elsewhere during the event.

As he took the stage, Foxx’s heartfelt acceptance speech—laced with vulnerability and gratitude—stole the night, as he revisited the harrowing medical emergency he suffered in April 2023.
“Man, we used to take this thing for granted—that God is good, all the time. I cannot even begin to express the love that I feel from everybody out there,” he said, his voice trembling.
Foxx paused, tears welling in his eyes. He recalled watching the “In Memoriam” segment earlier in the night and being struck by how easily that could have been him.
“When I saw the ‘in memoriam’ [portion of the awards show], I was like, man, that could have been me. But I don’t know why I went through what I went through, but I know my second chance—I’m not going to turn down,” he promised, wiping away tears.

He highlighted Corinne’s unwavering support and Anelise’s touching hospital concert: “My baby with the big hair… she snuck into my hospital room with her guitar and said, ‘I know what my daddy needs.’ And as she played the guitar, my vitals dropped,” he shared, adding that he "knew God was in that guitar."
In a poignant moment, Foxx affirmed his commitment to make the most of his renewed lease on life: “I said whatever reason you put this on me, I promise I’mma do right." He later included a lighthearted joke, quipping, "I gotta stop crying, but not yet."
He also paid tribute to the Black community and the BET Awards: “The Icon Award is the most important award because it comes from us,” he remarked.
After his speech, a heartfelt musical medley featuring tributes from Wonder, Jennifer Hudson, T‑Pain, Ludacris, Babyface, Tank, Teddy Riley, Doug E. Fresh and more further underscored the evening’s emotional resonance.
