Robin Uthappa picks Vaibhav Suryavanshi among 3 uncapped India stars set to play T20 World Cup 2026

Former cricketer Robin Uthappa picked three performers from IPL 2025 who can earn a spot in India’s squad for the 2026 T20 World Cup. Rajasthan Royals (GT) opener Vaibhav Suryavanshi is among three uncapped players he picked to earn a maiden call-up ahead of the ICC event, set to be played in India and Sri Lanka.

Sai Sudharsan finished IPL 2025 as the leading run-scorer, scoring 759 runs in 15 innings at an average of 54.21, including one century and six fifties. The left-handed opener has represented India in three ODIs and one T20I, and there is a possibility he will make his Test debut during the England tour.

Robin Uthappa said that Priyansh Arya, Prabhsimran Singh, and Vaibhav Suryavanshi are strong contenders for a spot in India’s 2026 T20 World Cup squad. However, they face tough competition from players like Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Sanju Samson, who are already part of the T20I setup.

"Priyansh Arya, Prabhsimran Singh, Vaibhav Suryavanshi, all of them will definitely be in contention for a World Cup spot. It's about using the remaining T20s before the tournament to figure out the best 15-man squad. You already have Shubman Gill, Sai Sudharsan, and Yashasvi Jaiswal, all Test players who can also thrive in T20s," Uthappa said as quoted by TOI.

"Then there's Sanju Samson. So it's going to be a challenge figuring out who makes the cut. Fitness will play a key role -- you want a fully fit squad going into a World Cup, and I'm sure that's something the selectors and management will be closely monitoring," he added.

Young Talents Shine Bright in IPL 2025 Season

Several emerging young talents showcased their skills during the IPL 2025 season. Punjab Kings’ openers Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh impressed with their aggressive batting throughout the tournament. Fourteen-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s impactful performances also drew widespread attention.

Their rise has complicated India’s selection decisions as the team gears up for a major tournament next year. Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal have been out of the T20I squad for over a year.

In their absence, Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson have seized the opportunity, forming a solid opening partnership. This increased competition has added pressure to the selectors.

Priyansh Arya, Prabhsimran Singh, and Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s Stellar IPL 2025 Performances

Prabhsimran Singh, who has been with Punjab Kings since 2019, enjoyed his best IPL season. He scored 549 runs in 17 matches at an average of 32.29 and an impressive strike rate of 160.52, including four half-centuries. The batter ranked eighth among the season’s top run-getters.

Priyansh Arya, playing his maiden IPL season, scored 475 runs in 17 innings at a strike rate of 179.24, including a century and two fifties. He broke Devdutt Padikkal’s record for most runs by a debutant in a single IPL season.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi made a strong impression in just seven matches. He scored 252 runs at an average of 36.00 and a strike rate of 206.55, including a century and a half-century. He is one of the tournament’s brightest young prospects.
