Mark Pope will not tolerate red inside Kentucky’s facilities.
No matter how diminutive that red might be.
On the first day of Pope’s Father/Son and Father/Daughter camps on Saturday, Pope called out a small child for having red socks on and immediately instructed a staffer to give the child a pair of white Kentucky socks to change into.
“I see red in this gym and it makes me truly uncomfortable. I’ve got a socks issue right here. I love you bro, but I’ve got a real socks issue,” Pope said. “[Brandon Garrison], can you take care of this, please? Will you please change those socks? Is that okay? Take those socks off, please.”

Kentucky beat Louisville last season 93-85 inside Rupp Arena. It was the Wildcats’ third consecutive win over the Cardinals in the series. In doing so, Pope joined John Calipari, Eddie Sutton, and Adolph Rupp as the only Kentucky coaches since 1930 to win their first game against Louisville.
As Kentucky readies for its second season under Pope, the head ball coach is hitting the camp circuit hard in June. Saturday and Sunday’s camp sessions are taking place inside the Joe Craft Center and Historic Memorial Coliseum on Kentucky’s campus. On June 20, Pope will host a free camp at North Laurel High School for boys and girls ages 7-17. On June 21, he’ll host another free camp at Russell County High School.
