There was a point in the mid-‘80s when the Del Fuegos were seen as one of the most promising young American bands in the burgeoning indie rock scene.

Tom Petty guested on one of their songs and invited them to open for him on tour. Miller Beer tapped them to star in a commercial. Yet mainstream stardom never came for the band, which remains a cult favorite decades later.

Lead by brothers Danand Warren Zanes, the Del Fuegos are set to make a rare appearance on Sept. 13 at the Bellforge Arts Center in the band’s home state of Massachusetts.

“Join us for a very special afternoon with The Del Fuegos, Boston rock legends known for their raw energy, heartfelt lyrics, and lasting influence on the local music scene. With their unmistakable sound and deep hometown roots, this outdoor show is more than a concert — it’s a celebration of community, spirit, and the sound of our town,” reads the Bellforge Arts Center’s Instagram post advertising the gig.

Fans reacted to the news of the show with enthusiasm and a sense of nostalgia.

    “Awesome! Can't wait!” wrote one.

“Been a long time,” another chimed in.

“I know of someone who saw them with the Violent Femmes, back before they had a record out,” added another.

A few simply posted, “Don’t Run Wild!” shouting out the title of the band’s 1985 song that reached No. 46 on the Mainstream Rock charts.
