A brand new Pink Floyd biography is set to be released and it will include unearthed rare letters from the band’s original frontman, the late Syd Barrett.
The new oral history — which will be the first about the group to be told by the band themselves alongside friends and collaborators supported by a wealth of completely new, unpublished findings — is said to include letters from Barrett to his then-girlfriend in 1965 and 1966. The letters, according to LouderSound.com, “reveal his intimate thoughts on the band, their very first recording session, his worries about leaving art college” and more.
The biography is aptly titled Pink Floyd Shine On: The Definitive Oral History and was penned by storied Pink Floyd biographer Mark Blake. It will be available through New Modern on October 9.

Blake also uncovers insights from unpublished interviews with current and former members of the band, including Nick Mason, Roger Waters, David Gilmour, and the late Richard Wright, who was dismissed from the band in 1979.
"I first saw Pink Floyd and their famous wall at Earls Court in 1980," Blake told the outlet in a statement. "It was an impressive piece of rock’n’roll theatre, made more impressive by the fact that I was fifteen years old. Over three decades later it’s been a pleasure and a privilege to tell the group’s story in their own words. My hope is that all readers – from the most committed super-fan to someone just discovering Pink Floyd’s music – enjoy a compelling and immediate experience of one of the most important bands in the world."
Barrett was asked to leave the band due to health problems and played with Floyd until 1968. He and Gilmour played in the band simultaneously for a few months after Gilmour joined in 1967.
