Music is in the air this San Diego weekend, especially on Saturday. But along with the concerts, there’s dance, a new museum exhibit and a chance to get a jump on Father’s Day too.

The San Diego Natural History Museum unveils “Amazement in the Basement,” where you can actually slip down to the lower level to sneak a peek at what’s not out on the main floors. It’s intended to feel like “an all-access pass to the museum” and since the entry is dominated by a suspended whale skeleton, there’s something amazing to see immediately. Also, get a load of the brand-new Paleontology Center at Nat at Night, a Friday special feature, where tickets are half off, so $12, and the fun starts at 5 p.m., with beer and wine on the roof.

Oceanside Art Walk begins its 12th season, from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, with a concert to follow at 8 p.m. Along with live music and art, Friends of the Oceanside Public Library will host a reading and book signing with Jolie Tunnell, author of the Idyllwild Historical Mystery Series.

DISCO RIOT’s Queer Mvmnt Fest, billed as “San Diego’s only queer-focused movement-arts festival,” continues. At 7 p.m. Friday, the Tender Riots Dance Party lands at The Loft at UCSD, 3151 Matthews Lane. The action shifts to the Saville Theatre at San Diego City College Saturday, with free workshops at 10 and 11:45 a.m., followed by the Mainstage Showcase at 7 p.m. Admission is $25 for the evening events, but organizers posted this: “No one turned away for lack of funds.”

Artivál debuts Saturday in downtown El Cajon. It’s billed as East County’s first-ever arts festival, bringing together local creatives, musicians, food trucks and more. The Art Walk opens at 10 a.m., with the wine and beer garden, along with live music, to follow at noon. More than 50 artists and makers are set to take part in the free event at Main Street and Magnolia Avenue.

The North Park Music Fest begins at 11 a.m. Saturday, spread throughout the neighborhood at multiple venues, including Seven Grand, Queen Bee’s and Bivouac Ciderworks. Acts include John Doe of X, Greyboy & The Midnight Sound Affair, The Schizophonics, Afrika Baby Bam and Strawberry Fuzz. Try the Creator’s Fair too, with more than 40 artists. Admission is $25, and there’s discounts for buying in bulk. But the price goes up day of.

The slate includes a couple of well known locals, Kimmi Bitter & Westside Twang and Tim Flannery & the Lunatic Fringe. Admission is free, but parking is $10 a car.

With the price of well, everything, Seaport Village’s Daycation celebration might be the stay-close-to-home option for you. At 3 p.m., enjoy a carnival atmosphere on the bayfront with a classic car show, free carousel rides, balloon artists, face painting, live music and samples from the food court.
