Judge revokes $200,000 bond for Catawba County mass shooting suspect, citing danger to public

CATAWBA COUNTY, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) -- A judge has revoked the $200,000 bond for Garon Nathaniel Killian, a man charged with attempted murder in connection with a house party mass shooting. On Thursday, prosecutors argued he "poses a danger to the community."

During Thursday's hearing, the District Attorney’s Office presented new evidence and urged the judge to change the bond. The DA said Killian violated the terms of his pretrial release and has shown a pattern of risky behavior.

Killian had been out on bond following an April 2025 shooting that happened at an abandoned Party City on Catawba Valley Boulevard. While no one was hurt in that shooting, the DA now said there’s stronger evidence linking Killian to the crime.

According to prosecutors, two handguns and spent shell casings were found in Killian’s vehicle. Witnesses also identified him as one of the shooters, and video footage allegedly shows Killian telling a co-defendant, “we f-ed up” by not getting rid of the shell casings.

It turns out Killian was already on pretrial release for another case at the time, a May 2024 incident involving several misdemeanor charges, including possession of marijuana and alcohol as a minor, open container, and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Prosecutors also said following the June mass shooting, Killian helped himself and others flee the county while still in possession of weapons. They plan to formally indict him on June 23.

The DA’s office told the judge that their office has received multiple angry calls from community members about the low bond originally set. They emphasized Killian’s alleged gang affiliation and urged the judge to consider him "a clear threat to public safety."

Killian’s attorney pushed back on Thursday, stating his client has been cooperative with law enforcement, even calling officers himself to talk. He also pointed out that Killian is not currently employed and has not yet been indicted for either shooting.

Still, the judge, the same one who initially set the bond this week, agreed with the prosecution and revoked Killian’s release, citing public safety concerns.

Killian remains in custody at this time.
