Flights delayed at Denver International Airport amid ground stop

The Federal Aviation Administration issued a ground stop Thursday morning at Denver International Airport, causing delays for flights headed in and out of the airport.

The FAA issued the ground stop at DIA at 7 a.m. for “low ceilings,” which refers to the lowest level of cloud cover, according to the agency’s website. The ground stop is scheduled through at least 8:15 a.m. Thursday.

As of 7:30 a.m., 84 flights had been delayed at DIA and one had been canceled, according to flight tracking software FlightAware.

Southwest delayed 62 of those flights, followed by eight from SkyWest, seven from United, three from Alaska Airlines, two from Volaris, one from Aer Lingus and one from American Airlines.

The sole canceled flight was also a Southwest trip, according to FlightAware.

Flights headed into DIA were experiencing up to 30-minute delays at 7:30 a.m. because of the ground stop, and FAA officials said those delays were increasing.

This is a developing story and will be updated.
