Lewis Hamilton visited 10 Downing Street on Wednesday for a roundtable discussion with UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer and Education Secretary Bridget Phillipson, focusing on ways to better support young people in schools.
The seven-time Formula 1 world champion, fresh off a sixth-place finish with Ferrari at the Spanish Grand Prix, continues to use his platform through his Mission 44 foundation, launched in 2021 to build a more inclusive future for underserved youth.
At the heart of the meeting was a discussion around improving access to STEM education and ensuring students feel heard and supported — something Hamilton says he lacked during his own school experience.
“I struggled in school and never felt like my voice was heard,” Hamilton said. “That’s why I know first-hand that ensuring every student feels they belong in school is vital.”
Hamilton confirmed that the government has now committed to working with Mission 44 to implement change across the UK education system.
“I’m so proud of how far Mission 44 has come and the opportunity we have to transform the lives of vulnerable students across the country,” he added.
