Crystal Palace’s position in next season’s Europa League remains under threat.
talkSPORT understands UEFA has rejected proposals from Palace shareholders John Textor and David Blitzer to place their shares in the club into a blind trust so the Eagles can compete in the Europa League.
News of UEFA’s rejection was first reported by The Guardian as Palace scramble for options to ensure they can take part in the lucrative competition.
Per UEFA rules, the changes at ownership level must take place before March 1 for them to kick in the following season.
Palace have subsequently missed the deadline by several months.
The Eagles’ position in the Europa League was placed under a cloud of uncertainty due to Textor, who is Palace’s largest shareholder and also the majority owner of French club Lyon, who will also take part in the tournament next season.
There is no prospect for Palace to drop into the Conference League either given Blitzer is among the ownership group at Danish club Brondby.
According to UEFA rules, no individual is permitted to ‘simultaneously be involved in any capacity’ for ‘more than one club participating in a UEFA club competition’.
UEFA has been contacted for comment.
Manchester City and Manchester United’s respective owners used blind trusts to navigate around UEFA’s multi-club ownership rules.
The City Football Group ran into the issue as they owned Girona, who qualified for last season’s Champions League.
As for United, co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s company INEOS own French club Nice, who were in the Europa League.

However, Forest faded away and finished seventh, which ensured qualification for the Conference League.
Given the south London club sat mid-table and were only in the fifth round of the FA Cup at the deadline, there was little thought given to the prospect of qualifying for European football.
But they went on to stun Manchester City in the FA Cup final to secure a ticket to the Europa League.
With the Europa League draw to take place on June 17, time is running out for Palace and Textor to find a solution.
Lyon are not under threat of being booted out of the Europa League as UEFA’s rules stipulate the club ranked higher in their respective domestic league receives entry.
The French side finished sixth in Ligue 1 while Palace ended the Premier League campaign in 12th.
