Red Arrows 2025 schedule: Full calendar of summer displays

The Red Arrows’ spectacular flypast over Buckingham Palace for VE Day gave a first flavour of a summer season of air displays which will see them fly the length and breadth of the country and head overseas.

Celebrations on 5 May in London were the first of more than 40 events the aerobatic team will attend over the course of the next few months.

From air shows and Armed Forces’ Days to festivals and regattas, the aircraft and their highly-trained pilots will be in travelling as far afield as Denmark, Poland, Czechia and Malta for displays.

And covering every corner of the British Isles from Aberdeen to Jersey, the Isle of Man to the Isle of Wight.

Squadron Leader Jon Bond, team leader, said: “The Red Arrows are ready to go for 2025.

“Getting to this point is the culmination of six months of hard work from everyone across the whole team, planning and preparing an exciting new display to perform for crowds at home and overseas.

“We can’t wait to get going and look forward to seeing everyone’s images that so many air show fans and aviation enthusiasts share with us online, as well as getting to meet people in-person at these events.”

The Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team, usually known as the Red Arrows, is one of the world’s most famous aerobatic display teams.

They are the public face of the Royal Air Force (RAF), acting as ambassadors for the United Kingdom at home and overseas and promoting the Armed Forces.

And their role is to demonstrate the capabilities of the RAF and its personnel.

Flying the Hawk fast-jets, the team is made up of pilots, engineers and support staff with frontline experience.

All Red Arrows display pilots have flown previously in military operations, in frontline aircraft such as Typhoons.

The Red Arrows team has been performing air displays since 1965, using a combination precision flying and close formations such as the trademark Diamond Nine shape.

By the beginning of its 60th display season in 2024, the Red Arrows team had flown almost 5,000 displays in 57 countries.

Where are the Red Arrows based?

The Red Arrows are based at RAF Waddington in Lincolnshire.

When the summer display season is over, the Red Arrows begin training at their base for the following year.

Winter training starts in October, with small groups of three or four aircraft formations. Each pilot will fly three sorties a day, five days a week, and the formations grow in aircraft number as training progresses.

By mid-March or early-April, winter training has ended and the team then usually moves overseas to a location with more predictable, settled weather to maximise flying hours and perfect the display. This is known as Exercise Springhawk.

During Springhawk the team is assessed by senior Royal Air Force officers to gain public display authority. If this is awarded, the team’s pilots change from green coveralls into their famed red flying suits and the ground crew are allowed to wear their royal blue display coveralls.

The season then officially begins and public displays by the Red Arrows are permitted.
