Republican Congressman Darrell Issa has reintroduced a resolution recognizing the vital role of independent workers and contractors in the American economy and reaffirming support for the economic opportunities available to those who choose to work for themselves.
“We stand with the millions of independent workers, contractors, and freelancers who are under threat from politicians and bureaucrats, especially in California, seeking to eliminate their livelihoods,” Rep. Issa said. “Too often dismissed as casual or part-time labor, these hardworking, self-reliant individuals are vital to the American economy; they’ve chosen an honorable path, and they deserve our support.”
Issa is joined by seven House colleagues in backing the resolution, which has also gained support from organizations including TechNet, the Flex Association, the Coalition for Workforce Innovation, and Glamsquad.

Rep. Darrell Issa represents California’s 48th Congressional District, which includes central and eastern San Diego County and part of Riverside County. The district includes communities such as Fallbrook, Valley Center, Ramona, Escondido, Santee, Lakeside, Poway, Temecula, Murrieta, and mountain and desert regions near the San Diego–Imperial County line. He previously served as Chairman of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform from 2011 to 2015.
