UFC fighter suffers suspected seizure as main event cancelled minutes before walkouts – but rival shows no sympathy

Erin Blanchfield said rival Maycee Barber needs to ‘fix her life’ after suffering an apparent seizure on Saturday night.

Blanchfield and Barber were set to meet in the main event of UFC Vegas 107 before it was cancelled at the very last minute.

Barber, 27, was just about to make her walkout when the UFC broadcast announced the fight was not going ahead due to a ‘last-minute medical issue.’

Blanchfield later revealed that she was told by UFC executive Hunter Campbell that her opponent had suffered a seizure and couldn’t receive medical clearance to enter the Octagon.

Despite Barber’s major health concerns, No. 4 ranked women’s flyweight Blanchfield called her opponent ‘unprofessional’ and ‘a ‘complete mess’ in a scathing assessment of the situation when addressing the media after the scrapped fight.

“I feel like I’m still pretty much in disbelief right now,” Blanchfield, 26, said.

“I feel like I was in disbelief yesterday when she missed weight because we knew about this fight since January…

“I think it’s pretty crazy. I think it’s pretty unprofessional. I wouldn’t want to fight her again.

“I was told she had a seizure in the locker room, I don’t know how or why exactly that was caused but that is what I was told.”

Barber had already missed weight before the fight, tipping the scaled at 126.5 lbs.

‘Cold Blooded’ added that she thought it was ‘strange’ when her opponent missed weight, but knew she was going to take her money regardless.

“We were told six minutes to the walkout,” Blanchfield continued.

“We already warmed up, I had pads, I was warming up with my training partner. I was literally ready to go.

“I feel like I could already smell the cage. I was ready, and then we just got the news.

“We’re supposed to be top-five in the world, be professional, be the best in the world.

“So yeah, that was concerning… she needs to look at another division.

“She needs to fix her life. She just needs to fix herself. I think she’s a complete mess in every aspect of her entire life.”

Blanchfield headed into the bout fresh off an important victory over former champion Rose Namajunas in November, after suffering the first UFC loss of her career eight months prior.

Barber, meanwhile, was on a six-fight win streak, but may be forced out of action for some time now.

Both fighters are ranked in the top five of the women’s flyweight division, which is currently ruled by Valentina Shevchenko.

Blanchfield mentioned Shevchenko when speaking about her future and how she would like to set up a new fight against a top-five opponent as soon as possible.

Elsewhere at the UFC Fight Night card, Mateusz Gamrot defeated Ludovit Klein via unanimous decision in a top lightweight bout, while Ramiz Brahimaj pulled off an upset by submitting Billy Ray Goff in the first round at welterweight.
