Hazardous heat underway in the Bay Area, elevated fire weather conditions

(KRON) -- Hazardous heat is expected again today along with elevated fire weather conditions. A pattern change begins on Sunday, leading to cooler weather followed by more seasonal temperatures next week.

Today and Tonight Key Messages

Heat Advisory

A Heat Advisory is in effect today from 11:00 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, with temperatures from the 90s to 103 in the interior North Bay Mountains, East Bay Valleys. Widespread moderate HeatRisk continues in those areas. Take extra precautions when outside, as hot conditions can cause heat illnesses. Hydration is a critical piece of surviving the heat. Remember: it is never safe to leave a child, disabled person, or pet locked in a car, so beat the heat and check the backseat!

    Elevated Fire Weather Threat

Dry and windy conditions will pose an elevated fire weather threat today. Easier fire starts may spread rapidly given the combination of low humidity and gusty winds. Remember, only you can prevent wildfires. One less spark, one less wildfire. Ensure that you are always exercising fire weather safety, especially over this time period.

Stratus is not as widespread this morning, with the narrow ribbon starting along the Marin coast and spanning southward.  Expect any interior locations impacted by stratus or fog to mix out by mid to late morning. High temperatures today begin to moderate. High temperatures this afternoon look to be about 5 to 15 degrees above normal, and far interior locations could reach the upper 90s to around 100 degrees. The spread for today will be much like yesterday, as the coast will have the natural air conditioning again. Another day of elevated fire weather concerns is on tap, as relative humidity is on the lower end again. Some cumulus clouds could pop up over our terrain, along the Diablo Range and into the interior North Bay mountains.
