ESPN are yet to launch a new show in the coveted 5pm ET slot.

An extended version of SportsCenter currently occupies the void left by Around the Horn.

Peter Schrager – a recent arrival on the network from NFL Network – is reportedly being eyed as a potential contributor in any replacement.

CNBC’s Alex Sherman claims discussions are underway for an “all-sports” show with Scrager as the anchor.

The 43-year-old was a fan favorite on Good Morning Football before jumping ship to ESPN earlier this year.

His current role sees him appear across the channels numerous talk shows, including Get Up and First Take.

Reports from The Athletic’s Andrew Marchand add that Schrager’s role in any show would “more likely to be part of an ensemble cast.”

“I think they really like him,” insider Andrew Marchand said, via Awful Announcing.

“I think there’s a very good chance that does happen – I don’t think it’s just going to be The Peter Schrager Show, but he could be a central figure in some sort of ensemble.

“The idea of him doing a show at either 2 or 5 o’clock is pretty likely.

“I think he can talk about other sports, but he’s NFL first, which is, if you may have noticed, what ESPN and most places want to be.

“And he’s good on TV. Again, he’s not going to just like run a show.

“I think you need a team, but I could see that working.”

Around the Horn launched in 2002, with Max Kellerman as its original host.

He was replaced by Tony Reali two years into the cycle.
