Former India bowling coach Bharat Arun is set to conduct a specialised coaching program for Sri Lanka’s top cricketers. Bharat Arun will conduct a specialised 14-day training program for both the men's and women's teams across men's and women's junior and senior teams as well as coaches.
Earlier in May, R Sridhar conducted a ten-day training camp in Sri Lanka. Last year, Zubin Bharucha, the Rajasthan Royals’ director of high performance, also led a short batting coaching program there. These coaching efforts have taken place under the leadership of Sri Lankan head coach Sanath Jayasuriya.
On Friday, Sri Lanka Cricket issued a press statement announcing that Bharat Arun will start a training program on June 2. Arun will work with the national men’s and women’s teams, the women’s ‘A’ team, the under-19 men’s team, as well as coaches.
"[Arun] will work with the Sri Lanka national men's and women's teams, the women's 'A' team, the U19 men's team, coaches of the high performance centre, club and provincial coaches, and coach-educators during his stay here in the country," the SLC statement said.
"He will conduct separate strategy sessions with the men's red-ball and white-ball teams, hold technical and skill-based training with fast bowlers, hold video and performance analysis sessions with players and coaches, and also match scenarios to develop 'game' understanding."
Bharat Arun’s Tenure as India’s Bowling Coach from 2014 to 2021
Bharat Arun served as India’s bowling coach from 2014 to 2021. He played a crucial role in building one of the most formidable pace attacks in world cricket. During his tenure, India secured historic Test series wins abroad, and fast bowling emerged as a dominant aspect of the team’s success.
The 62-year-old coach mentored a golden generation of Indian pacers, including Jasprit Bumrah, Ishant Sharma, Mohammed Shami, Umesh Yadav, and Mohammed Siraj, all of whom became world-class bowlers under his guidance.
Arun has taken on the role of bowling coach for the Kolkata Knight Riders since IPL 2023. He is also involved with their sister franchise, LA Knight Riders, in Major League Cricket (MLC).
