Manchester United fans were left red faced after a goalkeeping error kicked off their final post-season fixture.
Facing the Hong Kong national team on Friday, the Red Devils had a shaky start when former England goalkeeper Tom Heaton fumbled a shot heading straight at him to go 1-0 down after just 19 minutes.
But Amorim’s side came back with a better second half, ending their post-season tour with a 3-1 win.
Coming off the bench, 17-year-old Chido Obi-Martin scored two and fellow sub and teenager Ayden Heaven, 18, scored their third.
The club flew to Malaysia after ending a dismal Premier League campaign with a win over Aston Villa on Sunday.
United hit a new low when they were defeated 1-0 by ADEAN All-Stars in Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday.
United were denied a place in next season’s Champions League after they lost to Tottenham 1-0 in the Europa League final in Bilbao.
Amorim’s side finished 15th in the Premier League, the club’s worst ever campaign.
United fans flocked to mock their club after they slumped to an embarrassing defeat in Malaysia and after going an early goal down in Hong Kong.
One user wrote: “Bro this is embarrassing.” Another wrote: “This club is completely finished.”
“Why are Man Utd playing these games instead of resting their players? Money, what?” another posted.
After a ‘terrible season’, talkSPORT’s Angelina Kelly said the post-season tour was an ’embarrassing’ new low for the Red Devils.
Obi-Martin scored his team’s first and second goalsGetty“It’s just rubbish. It’s prolonging this pain,” said Kelly on the latest episode of Inside Devils on YouTube.
“You’ve got players swearing on camera, Alejandro Garnacho awkwardly signing shirts when it’s clear he definitely doesn’t want to be there, they’re getting booed off the pitch by Malaysian fans.
“We had a little moment against Aston Villa, but a few days later and it’s back to normal. It’s awful.
“It’s just for the revenue, but it’s only £8million the club is getting.
“I feel like the club could have raised that kind of money without having to play these games after an already terrible season. It’s embarrassing.”
It is thought the tour will generate about $10m (£7.8m) for the club.
United stars have been accused of not wanting to be there on the club’s post-season tour. After a long and dismal season, who could blame them?Getty Amorim post season tour has drawn criticism from fansGettyBy failing to qualify for Champions League football next season, United will miss out on the financial benefits.
Just hours after the team’s Europa League final defeat, Sir Jim Ratcliffe announced a second round of job cuts.
Earlier in the year, United announced they have lost more than £300m over the past three years.
talkSPORT BET’s Ryon Scott-Douglas said the post-season tour has come at the worst possible time for the club.
“Post-season tours, I don’t get it,” said the diehard United fan.
“To have one at a time where we’re so memeable, at a time where it’s so negative, Amorim was just on the pitch saying brighter days are coming… less than a week later we lose 1-0 to an Asian XI and we’re playing all of our stars.”
“It’s terrible. If I rant about how poor we are right now, I could go on for the whole show. I have to reign myself in. It’s dire.
“It’s really, really bad right now and that result is embarrassing.”
talkSPORT’s chief football correspondent Alex Crook echoed the criticism.
“I think it’s a shambles,” said Crook.
“The fact it comes after a season where we’ve seen cup replays scrapped because there’s too much pressure on Premier League players to play games…
“And what they’re also doing is they’re giving rival fans another stick to beat this once great club with, because they’re losing to pub sides, they’re going around on an open top bus. It’s the height of embarrassment. It just looks dreadful.
“And for INEOS, it’s a fitting end to a dismal season of rank bad decision-making.”
