West Memphis lies to the west of Memphis, Tennessee across the Mississippi River.
The Memphis Business Journal reports that it will have five server farms, offices, a road network and a substation big enough to handle the enormous amount of power the facility will require.
A special purpose vehicle called Groot LLC is developing the project, the Journal reports.
Google has not made an official statement about the campus, but paperwork Groot filed with the city council outlines a $10bn investment with the potential for up to $50bn in personal property tax abatements.
This is more than three times bigger than US Steel’s $3bn Big River plant, the present record holder for private investment in Arkansas.
According to site plans filed with the Army Corps of Engineers, the substation alone will cover 10ha and will cost as much as $142m.
Google has pledged to make its data centres net-zero carbon by 2030. Water cooling based on the large local aquifer may be involved in meeting this commitment.
The company has said it will spend $75bn this year increasing its AI firepower.
According to the Journal, the project has reached the request-for-proposals stage, and construction signage has appeared on the site, listing Turner Construction and Yates Construction as the contractors in charge.
The two are currently working on an Amazon data centre in Jackson, Mississippi.
