THE Pittsburgh Steelers have looked to add another offensive weapon to their lineup.
And the move for the Pro Bowl star is possibly an attempt to try and persuade Aaron Rodgers.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Steelers have been in trade talks with the Miami Dolphins.
The discussions are over tight end Jonnu Smith, who was named to the Pro Bowl in 2024.
Smith, 29, is set to make $4.8 million this season.
But he wants a new deal to reflect his strong 2024 campaign.
As well as making the Pro Bowl, Smith set franchise records for a tight end in receptions, touchdowns and receiving yards.
Miami is looking to trade the tight end instead of reworking his contract.
The 29-year-old was with the Tennessee Titans from 2017 to 2020.
He played for the New England Patriots in 2021 and 2022 before being traded to the Atlanta Falcons for 2023.
Smith was released by the Falcons last February.
He signed a two-year deal with the Miami Dolphins and ended up recording a career year.
Smith had 88 receptions for 884 yards and eight touchdowns.
Free agent quarterback Rodgers has yet to commit to playing for the Steelers.
The 41-year-old has kept everybody in the dark over his future since being cut by the New York Jets.
Another weapon in Smith could help to lure him.
Rodgers was expected to have announced his intentions by now.

But the team have began OTAs without the former Green Bay Packers and New York Jets star.
The team faces another headache with a player who is already on their payroll.
Elite pass rusher TJ Watt was also missing from the start of OTAs.
He is headed into the final year of his contract with the team and stands to earn $21m this year.
And Watt wants a new deal agreed before the 2025 campaign.
But the market for elite pass rushers like Watt was reset by Myles Garrett’s $40m-a-year deal for the Cleveland Browns.
