Bayer Leverkusen’s Nathan Tella has shared his thoughts on teammate Florian Wirtz’s potential summer transfer.
It seems only a matter of time until the signing of Wirtz to Liverpool is complete.
talkSPORT understands the star midfielder has agreed personal terms with Arne Slot’s side as they look to get the transfer over the line.
Wirtz made his professional debut for Leverkusen in 2020 and since then he has made 140 appearances and has scored 35 goals in the Bundesliga.
Tella joined Leverkusen in 2023 for £20milllion on a five year contract, following stints at Southampton and Burnley.
The Nigerian international has 51 appearances for the German side and scored seven goals.
Speaking to talkSPORT about his teammate Wirtz, Tella only had positive things to say, whether he stays with Leverkusen or leaves.
“As a player he’s brilliant,” said Tella.
“You know, I’ve worked with him for the last two years and it’s like each day I could just see this guy is unbelievable.
“It’s no surprise he has a lot of interest in him because he’s a brilliant player, but we trust that the club will make the right decision, he’ll make the right decision.
“And as a friend, I hope he’s also happy with whatever decision he makes, but we will support him regardless.”
Liverpool are in negotiations with Leverkusen following an initial offer in excess of £84m for the German.
Wirtz also has won 29 caps for Germany, scoring six goalsGetty Tella joined the Bundesliga side in 2023 on a five year contractThe Reds have beaten out Manchester City and Bayern Munich to sign the 22-year-old.
City had previously withdrawn their interest due to the soaring costs involved in the transfers.
Bayern had to accept defeat after the talented German international told the Bundesliga champions that he favours the move to Anfield.
Bayern club president Herbert Hainer acknowledged that the midfielder was eyeing the Premier League side at a fan festival.
“Max Eberl [Bayern’s director of sport] informed me that Florian Wirtz is probably leaning towards Liverpool,’ said Hainer.
“I can’t say how things will transpire with Leverkusen.”
Liverpool were crowned Premier League champions for the second time in April, making it their 20th English top-flight title overall.
Looking toward next season, former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy thinks the signing of Wirtz would almost certainly make them favourites for the 2025/26 Premier League title.
“You know what the big problem [with next season] is?” Murphy asked on talkSPORT.
“If Liverpool get Wirtz, it’s done. 100 per cent.
“Have you seen him?”
Murphy continued: “I’ve seen bits of Wirtz, of course I have.

“He’s got lovely feet where he can dribble past people and do little bits of skill.
“But his passing is superb, he sees all these pictures. Normally you are a bit more one or the other, but he sees both.”
