Anticipation for Netflix's adaptation of The Thursday Murder Club has been building ever since the project was announced three years ago – and now it's reached an all-time high following the release of the first footage from the film.
The new trailer gives fans a glimpse of Helen Mirren's Elizabeth, Pierce Brosnan's Ron and Ben Kingsley's Ibrahim in action as they investigate a cold case from 1973 for pure fun.
However, things soon take a chaotic turn whey they are thrown into a real crime on their doorstep.
The trailer also gives us a first look at some of the supporting cast, which includes Naomi Ackie, Ingrid Oliver, David Tennant and Daniel Mays.
Talking about how he landed the role, Mays previously said: "I'd just arrived in Belgium to work on Bookish, Mark Gatiss's new show. Then my agent messaged: 'Here's the script [for The Thursday Murder Club], do a self-tape [audition], they're seeing eight actors on Monday, you've got to be in the mix...'
"Luckily, the part came my way. But it’s a who’s-who in that cast: Helen Mirren, Pierce Brosnan, Celia Imrie, Ben Kingsley.
"My first day on set there was the Queen, James Bond, Acorn Antiques and Gandhi! It was mad."

The Thursday Murder Club release date
The Thursday Murder Club will be released on Netflix on Thursday 28th August 2025.
The news was announced in April 2025, along with the release of four new pictures, giving us fresh looks at the central quartet, as played by Helen Mirren, Pierce Brosnan, Ben Kingsley and Celia Imrie.
The movie wrapped filming in September 2024, and will be released just under a month before the release of Osman's latest book in the Thursday Murder Club series, The Impossible Fortune.

The cast of The Thursday Murder Club is headed up by Helen Mirren, Pierce Brosnan, Ben Kingsley and Celia Imrie, playing Elizabeth, Ron, Ibrahim and Joyce respectively.

The synopsis for the film says: "When an unexplained death occurs on their own doorstep, their casual sleuthing takes a thrilling turn as they find themselves with a real whodunit on their hands."
The movie has been directed by Chris Columbus, who was previously behind the first two Harry Potter films, and he recently told Collider that the film would be "sticking with the storyline of the first Thursday Murder Club novel", although he admitted that "certain events and plot devices have been changed".
"Other scenes were omitted for time," he explained. "But the essence of the book's sharp, witty humour and the emotional complexity of each character has been preserved. The film is a very faithful adaptation of the novel."
The film comes from Steven Spielberg's production company, Amblin Entertainment, with the famous director having visited the set during filming.
