AARON Rodgers will have some competition if he signs with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Mason Rudolph is being tipped for a meteoric rise if he gets the team’s starting job.
Rudolph has been seen completing passing reps at Steelers training camp, and it is starting to get team insiders excited.
Pittsburgh sports personality Andrew Fillipponi is especially high on Rudolph’s potential with the team.
“Mason looks smooth,” he posted on X.
“I really think he COULD be the next Sam Darnold. Or Geno Smith. If given the chance.”
Sam Darnold was seen as a first-round NFL Draft bust before this previous season.
Up until 2024, Darnold’s record was 21-35.
With just one season as the starter of the Minnesota Vikings, he improved that record to 35-38.
Darnold was rewarded with a three-year, $100.5 million contract from the Seattle Seahawks after his successful season.
Geno Smith had a similar career path, but it took a few more years for him to find success than Darnold.
He was drafted in 2013 and instantly became the New York Jets’ starter.
However, he fizzled out and went on to become a career backup.
That is until 2021, when he joined the Seattle Seahawks and started a few games in replacement of Russell Wilson.
He won the starting job from there, and played to a 28-24 record.
Smith was traded away to the Las Vegas Raiders this offseason, and was given a two-year, $70 million contract from the team.
Those two QBs are major success stories, and many fans don’t agree with Fillipponi’s prediction that Rudolph can have the same career path.
