A MAN who couldn’t drive his BMW for six months finally got it back, all thanks to artificial intelligence.
He turned to AI for help after an insurance company refused to cover a $5,000 repair bill when his car was side-swiped.
Greg Irwin’s BMW was sideswiped by a Cox Communications work van while his wife was driving it back in December.
“There’s a Cox Communications van sitting on the right hand side doing the same thing as she turns into the right, the Cox communication van merges into her lane, side swipes the whole area,” Irwin explained to CBS local affiliate KPHO-TV.
“And from that standpoint, knocks her up on the curb.”
The damage was so bad, the car had to be sent to a collision center in Phoenix, Arizona.
Cops responded to the scene and wrote up a police report.
But according to the report, no one was cited.
The 2012 model was fixed, totaling a repair bill of $5,193.
Greg only had liability insurance, which wouldn’t cover the charges.
Then, Cox’s insurance company, called Broadspire, said they wouldn’t pay the repair bill.
Broadspire’s refusal to help brought the insurance dispute to a standstill for nearly six months.
The entire time, Irwin’s fixed Beemer sat at the repair center with no one to drive it.
Tired of getting nowhere, Greg decided to try something new.
He told KPHO that his coworker advised him to use ChatGPT to figure out his next step.
“So I just asked ChatGPT, what’s my next step?” He recalled.
“And it said, call your local news.”
Car insurance tips
Here are some ways to lower monthly car insurance rates:
Increase the deductible – this may increase the amount drivers must pay in an accident Ask insurance carriers for discounts Slow down on the road Keep off the cell phone behind the wheel Improve credit scores (in some states) Bundle insurance policiesSource: Liberty Mutual
Greg reached out to AZFamily’s On Your Side team, and that changed everything.
The news station contacted Broadspire Insurance directly and asked them to investigate the claim.
Soon after, the company issued a check to cover the $5,000 bill.
“The next thing you know, the check was cut, and they sent it over. And here we are,” Greg said.
His BMW was released from the repair shop and is now back on the road.
“You know, when you’re a little fish in a shark pond, it’s nice to have someone else who can go in and fight for you.”
Broadspire hasn’t returned The U.S. Sun’s request for comment.
