Of all the revelations to come out of the Diddy trial, his eating habits are probably the last thing anyone expected. But during the second week of the Manhattan federal trial, one of Combs’ former personal assistants told the jury that, just before a tense showdown with longtime rival Suge Knight in 2008, Combs had one thing on his mind: cheeseburgers from a popular Los Angeles diner.
While we can all sympathise with a good cheeseburger craving, it wouldn’t be Diddy news without some sort of unusual revelation, now would it? Just last week, another one of Combs’ former assistants told jurors that the Bad Boys Records founder likes his cheeseburgers topped with applesauce. Excuse me?

While under cross-examination by Combs’ defense attorney Marc Agnifilo, former personal assistant George Kaplan was asked, “Tell the jury what you remember about applesauce.” Kaplan didn’t miss a beat: “Mr. Combs loves applesauce. He eats it on the side or on top of a lot of things.”
“Cheeseburgers?" the defense attorney asked. "Cheeseburgers being one of them," Kaplan promptly answered.

Given the long list of accusations stacked against Diddy, it’s hard to imagine anyone losing sleep over whether the disgraced rap mogul got to enjoy his favorite indulgences this past Memorial Day weekend. It seems as though Combs’ cheeseburger-and-applesauce dreams were put on hold, as he remains locked up at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn.
What we do know is that inmates at the Brooklyn lock-up on Monday, May 26 were served a Memorial Day menu of “BBQ” chicken, kidney beans, mac and cheese, mixed vegetables, whole wheat bread, fruit, and a “holiday dessert.” Combs—alongside more than 1,000 other inmates, including alleged CEO killer Luigi Mangione—got the same tray.
Take a wild guess at what didn’t make the menu: cheeseburgers and applesauce. What you can get, though, is barbecue sauce for $2.85 and soy sauce for $1.20. We can’t speak for everyone behind bars, but one thing’s clear—steep prices are hitting us all, whether you’re in a prison cell or not.
