‘We are frustrated’ – EFL club issue frosty statement with manager set to join Schalke

Plymouth Argyle confirmed they have ‘reluctantly allowed’ head coach Miron Muslic to begin talks with Schalke.

Argyle, who were relegated to League One as they finished 23rd in the Championship this past season, revealed Muslic ‘expressed his desire’ to speak with the German side and ‘not return to England.’

Muslic’s stint at Plymouth Argyle appears to be overGetty

“Despite regular communication since the end of the season, and no mention of any issues, Miron has now made it clear that, after extended periods away from his family, this opportunity provides him the chance to be closer to them after four years on the road,” the statement read.

“We are frustrated by this decision, having implemented clear structures, processes and personnel to aid Miron and his coaching staff as we look to return to the Sky Bet Championship at the earliest opportunity.

“Not only that, the club have also moved quickly to bring in new signings and received repeated verbal promises from Miron that he was committed to Argyle and would do everything to help the club bounce back to the second tier.”

Muslic arrived at Argyle in January and penned a three-and-a-half-year deal.

He signed on after Wayne Rooney was sacked as Pilgrims boss following a disastrous spell which set an alarming Championship record.

However, Muslic is poised to leave after just four months.

The 42-year-old oversaw 21 league fixtures for the Pilgrims and finished with a record of seven wins, five draws and nine defeats.

Had the season started from Muslic’s first game in charge on January 14, which was a 1-1 draw against Oxford United, Plymouth would have finished 12th.

But his most impressive result during his stint at Home Park was undeniably the 1-0 upset over Premier League winners Liverpool in fourth round of the FA Cup.

It was just the fourth time in FA Cup history the leaders of the Premier League had been bundled out of the competition by a team outside the top flight.

Muslic signed a three-and-a-half year deal, only to last four monthsAFP

Muslic’s impending exit comes after Argyle announced the signing of Coventry City midfielder Jamie Paterson as well as Australian talent Caleb Watts from bitter rivals Exeter City.

Left-back Jack MacKenzie is also poised to join from Aberdeen.
