Despite her team’s struggles, Angel Reese continues to make history.
The Chicago Sky were condemned to a fourth straight loss on Tuesday evening, losing 94-89 to the Phoenix Mercury, meaning they are now 0-4 to start the new WNBA season.
Despite criticism from online fans, Reese had another record-breaking night.
The WNBA star recorded another double-double in her team’s loss, her third in just four games this season.
Reese finished the night with 13 points, 15 rebounds, three assists, three steals and two blocks, wrapping up a solid effort from the sophomore center.
Her performance also saw her become the fastest player in WNBA history to reach 500 rebounds and 500 points, doing so in just 38 games.
The previous record was held by Tina Charles, who achieved the feat in 44 games.
Reese, who would have been disappointed with her team’s loss, reposted accounts that shared her record-breaking night on X before writing her own message.
“God has a plan. Day by day,” she posted on X.
Despite the strong performance from Reese, fans online were still quick to criticize the 23-year-old after she missed an important layup in the fourth quarter.
Reese’s layup package and overall finishing has been ridiculed by fans for well over 12 months.
One clip from the Mercury game went viral after Reese caught the ball in the paint before rather aimlessly hoisting it towards the basket and missing.
“Nah man Angel Reese really got the worst layup package we’ve ever seen. This is crazy,” one fan posted on X along with the video of her miss.
“Her hand eye coordination needs some major work,” one fan posted
“It’s almost like she’s jumping DOWN on her layups. She needs to strengthen her legs. Get some bounce in those put backs,” one fan added.

Last season, she only made only 42 percent (136 of 321) of her layup attempts and has previously referred to her shooting percentage on social media “the worst you’ll ever see me.”
Lisa Leslia, a retired WNBA legend, even told Reese on her podcast that she would help fix her layups.
“The biggest advice I have for you is gonna be how you shoot your layups, period,” Leslie told Reese on Unapologetically Angel back in February.
“We’re gonna fix that. That’s fixable for you.”
“Just the idea that you want to get better, like I love that.”
Ultimately, the Sky‘s 0-4 start this year has little to do with Reese’s missed layups.
The team lost their leading scorer earlier this year when Chennedy Carter became a free agent.
Their loss to Phoenix also made unwanted history as their four-game winless run means they have tied their worst start to a season in franchise history.
And it doesn’t get any easier either as they have Paige Bueckers’ Dallas Wings next.
Then, a highly anticipated rematch against the Indiana Fever follows, a clash that made previously made headlines after Caitlin Clark’s flagrant foul on Reese.
