Gio recently discovered that he is a Quartermaine and a Corinthos by blood. How is he connected to these two General Hospital families?
When Gio Palmieri, played by Giovanni Mazza, came to Port Charles last year for his 'cousin' Brook Lynn Quartermaine's (Amanda Setton) wedding to Harrison Chase (Josh Swickard), fans thought he was just another member of the very extended Cerullo clan from Bensonhurst and that was exactly what General Hospital wanted us to think.
As time went on clues were dropped that there was more to the story, and while the audience has known for a while now, last week everyone in Port Charles found out that Gio was actually the son Brook Lynn had given up for adoption as a teenager upon finding herself pregnant after a summer camp fling with Dante Falconeri (Dominic Zamprogna). In true soap opera fashion, the truth was revealed in a dramatic moment at this year's Nurses' Ball.
Right before he was supposed to play the violin while Anna (Finola Hughes) and Chase tangoed, Gio overheard Lulu (Alexa Havins) arguing with his 'cousin' Lois (Rena Sofer) and heard Lois confess his true identity as the biological son of Brook Lynn and Dante.

This threw poor Gio into a tailspin. Lois was his grandmother, Brook Lynn his mother, and his benefactor, 'Uncle' Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard), was his grandfather. He had recently butted heads with Dante over Gio trying to help Dante's teenage son Rocco (Finn Carr) cover up his night of drinking which nearly led to Rocco's death and now he has to face that the man who coldly threw accusations at him is his father.
It was all too much for Gio to take, and he announced what he had found out to everyone at the Nurses' Ball and smashed his beloved violin before fleeing the stage and leaving chaos and confusion behind him. He went to the Quartermaine mansion to pack, determined to leave town when he was stopped by his great-grandmother, Tracy Quartermaine (Jane Elliot). He told her what he had found out and that he was leaving, but she convinced him to stay for a moment while she told him about his Quartermaine family.
Gio now has to contend with not only the fact that he was lied to all of his life, but also that his paternal grandfather, Sonny, is a mob boss, and is hated by his maternal grandfather, Ned Quartermaine (Wally Kurth), and his great-grandmother, Tracy. Further complicating matters for the kid is that his paternal grandmother, Olivia Quartermaine (Lisa LoCicero), is married to Ned but remains close to Sonny, with whom she shares Dante.
Gio's existence ties two of Port Charles' most powerful families together by blood for the first time. The Quartermaines and the Corinthos families have long histories in town and with each other, mostly adversarial. Will that change now that they share a family member they all love? The far-reaching fallout of this revelation has us glued to our seats!
Stay tuned to General Hospital, which airs weekdays on ABC and streams on Hulu.
