(QUEEN CITY NEWS) -- Memorial Day is a time to honor and reflect, but as the unofficial start of summer, there are a slew of events this weekend that also celebrate the new season. Here is how to pay tribute to those who paid the ultimate sacrifice:
Monday, May 26
Charlotte Honor Ride
The second annual motorcycle ride in honor of Dennis Koch will be leaving Thompson Park at 9 a.m. going through uptown Charlotte and onto N.C. 49 into Stanly County, ending at the Salisbury National Cemetery for a moment of silence.
Gethsemane Cemetery Ceremony
The north Charlotte cemetery is hosting a Memorial Day Ceremony from 10 a.m. to noon to honor those who lost their lives while serving our country. It will feature: guest speaker Hedy Taube, a World War II survivor; caisson procession by Happy Trails; CMPD Honor Guard presentation; dove release; and lunch after the ceremony

The Memorial Day event will include a message from town leaders followed by a ceremonial program from American Legion Post 43 which will include the posting of colors, laying of the wreath, rifle volley and Taps, and retirement of colors.
Cornelius Ceremony
The town is joined by American Legion Post 86 to honor the nation’s servicemen and women who have given the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. The keynote speaker at the Cornelius veteran’s memorial will be Gold Star mother Susan McClamrock.
Huntersville Ceremony
The town and American Legion Post 321 are holding their 24th annual Memorial Day Ceremony at Veterans Park downtown.
Waxhaw Ceremony
The town’s annual Memorial Day Ceremony will take place at its Military Wall of Honor on Main Street.
Kannapolis Ceremony
A Memorial Day procession will begin at 11:30 a.m. on Main Street followed by a Memorial Day Program at noon in Veterans Park. There will be a keynote speaker, 1st Sgt. Terry Rodell, retired U.S. Marine Corps and NJROTC Instructor at A.L. Brown High School.
Kings Mountain Ceremony
The Memorial Day tribute will be observed at Patriots Park. Veterans and families are invited to the observance and wreath-laying ceremony.

Whitewater Center Celebration, Saturday & Sunday
The outdoor facility holds a Saturday morning race through its trail system – 3 mile, 5 mile and 8 miles courses available. Day-pass activities and yoga are available all weekend long before Jovin Webb and Harper O’Neill take the stage for live music Sunday evening.
Monroe Historical Marker Ceremony
Monroe is honoring former Police Chief James F. Sutton with a historical marker at his birthplace in the Quality Hills community. He was the first Black police chief in the department’s history. The marker will be unveiled at 10 a.m. at 106 S. Branch St., Monroe.
Sunday, May 25
South End Block Party
Camden Road transforms into a vibrant neighborhood block party where you can shop with local small businesses, enjoy larger-than-life games, snap the perfect photo, relax with friends, and more. For each of the three events this summer, Camden will be closed to vehicular traffic from Tremont Ave to East/West Blvd from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
