Ronnie O’Sullivan has never been one to hide his emotions, even in the height of competition.
The Rocket has delivered a plethora of iconic moments during his glittering career and not just for his exploits with his cue.
Few would ever want O’Sullivan to stop his occasional eccentric outbursts which have inadvertently added to his box-office status.
But despite the occasional outburst – often aimed at himself – O’Sullivan is professional enough to know when to hold up his hands and take accountability.
The Rocket did just that in a first-round clash against Ding Junhui at the Player Championship in 2021.
In a match where he edged out the Chinese star 6-5 in Milton Keynes, O’Sullivan became embroiled in a moment of frustration in the 10th frame after missing the final green while using the cue rest.
He subsequently threw the rest to the floor in anger before quickly realising the error of his ways and picked it back up again.
Ding went on to win the frame but O’Sullivan was able to recompose himself and win the decider to book his spot in the quarter-final against Jack Lisowski.
Despite the commotion, the seven-time world champion hoped his moment of frustration hadn’t knocked Ding out of focus and admitted he felt bad for his actions.
“I feel really bad there, throwing the rest on the floor,” O’Sullivan told ITV.
“I hope I haven’t upset Ding because I was just frustrated, I couldn’t get to grips with my game.
“No matter how philosophical you can be, when you’re cueing, not striking the ball as great as you want to…I don’t dwell on it but it’s just hard out there when you’re fighting the elements, the elements of snooker shall we call it?”

Just days before his clash with Ding, the Rocket slipped to a 9-8 Welsh Open defeat to Jordan Brown and said a lack of rest time between playing commitments is challenging.
“I try not to assess it really, you go out there and try to do a job, it was what it was,” he told WST.
“It felt tough a lot of times but I just had to stick in there. I want to be in the tournament so I just had to try and erase as many poor shots as I could and focus on the next ball.”
O’Sullivan went on to beat Lisowski 6-1 in the quarter-finals before seeing off Barry Hawkins in the last four.
But it was back-to-back final defeats for O’Sullivan who was comprehensively beaten 10-3 by John Higgins in the final.
