Alejandro Garnacho nears £50m Man Utd exit after falling out with Ruben Amorim

Alejandro Garnacho is heading for a quick and rather acrimonious Manchester United departure, with Napoli planning to hold talks with player and club this week.

The i Paper understands Napoli sporting director Giovanni Manna is set to meet with United officials to begin the negotiation process, having tried and failed with a £40m transfer in the January transfer window.

Ruben Amorim has told Garnacho to find a new club after the young Argentine publicly expressed his displeasure at being left out of United’s Europa League final defeat to Tottenham Hotspur.

As expected, Garnacho was omitted from United’s squad for the final day win over Aston Villa, with it highly unlikely he will feature for the club again.

United rejected Napoli’s advances earlier this year after demanding closer to £60m.

While Napoli are not expected to match United’s previous valuation, several sources close to the potential deal believe a compromise around the £50 mark can be found, given the latter’s need to sell players to fund Amorim’s squad rebuild.

Chelsea are also understood to be targeting Garnacho having also enquired in January.

However, the Serie A champions remain very much in the driving seat, given they are more advanced in their interest.

Napoli are also closing in on the capture of Kevin De Bruyne, with the Manchester City veteran to finalise a free transfer in the coming days. It is understood the 33-year-old will sign a two-year contract. The move could be announced as early as next week.

Despite clinching the Serie A title last week, with former United duo Scott McTominay and Romelu Lukaku scoring the goals that earned them the fourth Scudetto on Friday night, rumours are circulating in Italy that manager Antonio Conte may still leave. Conte’s potential departure is not understood to have any bearing on either deal.

Getting Garnacho moved on quickly is understood to be high on United’s agenda, even though the 20-year-old will be going on the club’s post-season tour, with the team leaving directly after their Villa encounter to Kuala Lumpur and then Hong Kong.

“Alejandro Garnacho continues to be a Man United player, not in the squad today but still a Man United player,” Amorim said ahead of the Villa encounter. “He will fly with us for post-season tour. We need to be all there, we have to give something back to our fans”.

Selling academy graduate Garnacho, who represents 100 per cent profit in the eyes of the Premier League’s profitability and sustainability rules, is too appealing a prospect for the club, sources said, for his presence in Asia to be anything other than a stay of execution.

Who else could leave Man Utd?

More exits are expected to follow. Marcus Rashford remains an attractive proposition to Barcelona, with sporting director Deco this week revealing the club are interested in the 27-year-old, as The i Paper reported last month.

United are also confident Antony will garner plenty more interest given his fine form on loan at Real Betis this season. The club are hoping to raise at least £40m from any sale, sources said.

Jadon Sancho will almost certainly leave even if Chelsea are not all that keen on activating their option to make his loan spell at Stamford Bridge a permanent one.

Even skipper Bruno Fernandes is not safe from co-owners Ineos’s attempts to clear the decks. It is understood Al-Hilal want him to be their marquee capture this summer and are willing to offer United £100m to persuade them to part ways.
