CIF-SS BASEBALL SEMIFINALS
TUESDAY
DIVISION 1
Crespi (25-2) at Santa Margarita (19-12), 3:15 p.m.
Outlook: Santa Margarita finished third in the Trinity League. In the playoffs the Eagles defeated Newport Harbor 2-0 in the first round, Huntington Beach 6-5 in the second round and Los Alamitos 5-4 in the quarterfinals. Santa Margarita has won 13 consecutive home playoff games. Junior second baseman Brody Schumaker is batting .343. Senior shortstop Gavin Spridonoff is batting .312. Senior right-handed pitcher Brennan Bauer is 10-3 with a 2.52 ERA and has earned the victory in all three Santa Margarita playoff wins. Second-seeded Crespi won the Mission League championship. The Celts were one of five Division 1 teams that had a first-round bye. In the playoffs they defeated El Dorado 5-2 in the second round and Mira Costa 3-2 in nine innings in the quarterfinals. Crespi’s Gavin Huff hit a home run in the bottom of the seventh inning to tie the game. The winner advances to the Division 1 championship game to face Corona or St. John Bosco. CIF-SS championship games are Friday and Saturday at Cal State Fullerton and at Blair Field in Long Beach.
DIVISION 2
Fountain Valley (18-13) at Mater Dei (18-13), 3:15 p.m.
Outlook: Fountain Valley finished fourth in the Sunset League. The Barons opened the playoffs with a 4-2 win over El Segundo in the first round followed by a 7-0 win over Trabuco Hills in the second round and a 5-2 win over Torrance in the quarterfinals. Barons senior Tyler Peshke is batting .423 with five home runs and 26 RBIs. Fountain Valley junior Josh Grack is batting .337 and is 7-2 on the mound with a 1.69 ERA. Mater Dei finished sixth in the six-team Trinity League. In the playoffs the Monarchs defeated South Hills 3-0 in the first round, Simi Valley 6-4 in the second round and Foothill 2-0 in the quarterfinals. Mater Dei senior Brandon Thomas pitched a four-hitter with 13 strikeouts in the win over Foothill. The winner plays Etiwanda or West Rancho in the finals.

San Dimas (18-10) at Beckman (18-13), 3:15 p.m.
Outlook: San Dimas finished third in the Hacienda League. The Saints beat Calabasas 6-1 in the first round, Colony 7-5 in the second round and Paraclete 5-0 in the quarterfinals. San Dimas pitchers have a team ERA of 2.04. Saints freshman Dean Brosterhouse is 7-2 with a 2.02 ERA. Beckman, last year’s Division 3 champion, was in a four-way tie for second place in the Sea View League with a 5-7 league record (El Toro, Mission Viejo and San Juan Hills also went 5-7 in league). In the playoffs the Patriots defeated Temescal Canyon 13-4 in the first round, Cajon 7-1 in the second round and Arrowhead Christian 5-4 in the quarterfinals. Beckman senior Nick Molina has 19 RBIs and is 6-4 on the mound with a 2.80 ERA. The offense includes two hot-hitting freshmen, Anton Le who is batting .333 and Sean Franco who is batting .317. The winner plays Temecula Valley or Glendora in the finals.
DIVISION 5
Northwood (15-15-1) at St. Anthony (20-8), 3:15 p.m.
Outlook: Northwood tied Woodbridge for third place in the eight-team Pacific Coast League. The Timberwolves were seeded No. 1 in the division. They beat Loara 10-0 in the first round, Laguna Hills 10-5 in the second round and Citrus Hill 1-0 in the quarterfinals. Paul Grossman and Garret Stevenson combined to shut out Citrus Hill and Carter Liu had two hits for and drove in the lone run of the game. St. Anthony defeated Heritage 3-1 in the first round, Jurupa Hills 4-3 in the second round and Hillcrest 7-2 in the quarterfinals. The winner Carmarillo or Elsinore in the division final/
DIVISION 6
Rancho Mirage (18-12) at Estancia (18-13), 3:15 p.m.
Outlook: Estancia finished second to Century in the Coast League. The Eagles in the playoffs defeated Alhambra 10-8 in the first round, Foothill Tech 11-1 in the second round and Pacifica Christian 4-3 in nine innings in the quarterfinals. Eagles junior Sawyer Atkinson is batting .441 with 27 RBIs and 14 doubles. Nico Viramontes is batting .344 with 23 RBIs for Estancia and is 8-0 with a 2.15 ERA. Rancho Mirage finished fourth in the six-team Desert Empire League. In the playoffs the Rattlers beat Rancho Verde 7-2 in the first round, Crossroads 11-5 in the second round and St. Monica Prep 6-0 in the quarterfinals. Rancho Mirage junior Jesus Gutierrez is batting .438. The winner plays Marshall or Heritage Christian in the divisional final.
DIVISION 8
Valencia (12-14) at Pioneer (16-12), 3:15 p.m.
Outlook: Valencia finished third in the Orange Coast League. The Tigers opened the playoffs with an 11-6 win over Temecula Prep followed by an 11-8 win over Arroyo in the second round and a 9-3 win over San Bernardino in the quarterfinals. Valencia senior Johnny Castellanos is batting .341 with 25 RBIs. Tigers senior Jackson Paine is batting .333 with 24 RBIs. Pioneer finished fifth in the 605 League. The Titans in the playoffs beat Calvary Baptist 8-5 in the first round, Hesperia Christian 14-8 in the second round and Beverly Hills 8-4 in the quarterfinals. The winner plays the Colton-Fillmore winner in the division’s championship game Friday or Saturday.
