A 5-run opening frame put Ole Miss on the front foot and the Rebels never let Arkansas back into the game, beating the Razorbacks 5-2 in Hoover on Friday to advance to the SEC Tournament semifinals.
Ole Miss (39-18) will face either Texas A&M or LSU in the semis. It will be the program’s first appearance in the semifinal round of the SEC Tournament since 2021.
Judd Utermark got things rolling in the first inning with an RBI single to left field. Two batters later, Ryan Moerman hit his own RBI single to score another run. But it was Austin Fawley’s 2-out homer that set the tone for the day in Hoover.

— Ole Miss Baseball (@OleMissBSB) May 23, 2025The hit notched Fawley his 18th home run of the season and put the Rebels up 5-0 going into the bottom of the first.
Riley Maddox, who drew the start on the mound for Ole Miss, would last 5.2 innings before exiting and earning his sixth win of the season. He gave up 3 hits and 1 earned run in each of the first 2 innings, but he fanned 7 batters and retired 10 straight between the second and fifth.
A solo shot to open the bottom of the second was the last hit Arkansas would record until Reese Robinett reached with a 1-out single in the bottom of the fifth. Maddox answered the home run with a strikeout on the ensuing at-bat and he answered the single in the fifth with another strikeout.
Spotted with a 5-run lead, Maddox was locked in from the moment he stepped on the field.
“I don’t think they’re going to score 5 on me, so that was pretty big,” Maddox told SEC Network after the game.
He handed off to Will McCausland with 2 away in the sixth and a man on first. McCausland proceeded to work himself into a jam, giving up a single and then walking the bases loaded, but he struck out Arkansas’s Brent Iredale looking to end the inning and leave unscathed.
Facing Mason Morris and then Connor Spencer, Arkansas went without a hit for its final 8 plate appearances. Spencer recorded his sixth save of the season.
First pitch on Saturday is set for 2:30 p.m. ET. Vanderbilt faces Tennessee in the first semifinal of the day, with that game scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. ET.
