AN NBA referee suffered an ugly blow to the nose in the early part of a playoff game on Thursday night.
The sequence occurred in the first quarter of the Oklahoma City Thunder‘s 118-103 Game 2 Western Conference Finals win over the Minnesota Timberwolves.
The playoff game was physical throughout, but a referee got caught in the fray, too.
During the first quarter, veteran referee Scott Foster threw up the jump ball for Timberwolves’ Julius Randle and the Thunder’s Luguentz Dort.
However, Randle kicked Foster in the stomach during the play.
And Dort hit Foster in the nose as well.
As a result, Foster was left with a bloody nose, and he needed medical attention from the trainers.
The game was delayed for about a minute and a half.
Fortunately, Foster returned without missing any game time.
NBA fans reacted to the sequence on social media.
“They beat Foster’s a**,” one wrote.
“The ref got double attacked. Just all bad timing,” another commented.
“What an unlucky day for Foster,” a third said.
“They jumped the ref,” a fourth stated.
Thursday’s injury was the first for Foster this season.
He was forced to exit a regular-season contest between the New York Knicks and Miami Heat due to a calf injury.
The Thunder won Game 2 and have a 2-0 series lead.
