Mukesh Kumar penalized for misconduct by BCCI

Delhi Capitals (DC) fast bowler Mukesh Kumar has been penalized for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during the IPL 2025 clash against Mumbai Indians (MI). The BCCI imposed a 10% fine on his match fee and added one demerit point to his disciplinary record following Delhi's 59-run loss in the clash.

Delhi Capitals were defeated by 59 runs against Mumbai Indians in a must-win IPL 2025 clash at the Wankhede Stadium on Wednesday, May 21. Mumbai booked their spot in the playoffs after a poor start to the season. Delhi, who have 13 points from 13 matches, were knocked out of playoff contention.

Mukesh Kumar was penalized for committing a Level 1 offence under Article 2.2 of the IPL Code of Conduct, which deals with "abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings during a match." The Delhi Capitals pacer accepted the sanction.

"Mukesh Kumar has been fined 10 per cent of his match fees and has also accumulated One Demerit Point for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during his team’s match against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on Wednesday," read the IPL statement.

"Mukesh Kumar admitted to the Level 1 offence under Article 2.2 (Abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings during a Match) and accepted the Match Referee’s sanction."

"For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee’s decision is final and binding."

Mukesh Kumar Has a Forgettable Outing with the Ball

Mukesh Kumar started well by taking the early wicket of Will Jacks and later dismissed Tilak Varma. However, he struggled during the death overs, especially in the 19th over where he gave away 27 runs, including three sixes and two fours, against Suryakumar Yadav and Naman Dhir.

Mukesh tried to pitch the ball up, which the batsmen exploited fully. He called for a physio after the fourth ball of his final over but completed the over and ended up conceding 48 runs in his four overs. Mumbai Indians set a strong total of 180/5 on a tough pitch that favored spin.

The right-arm pacer has played in 11 out of DC’s 13 matches this season. He has taken 11 wickets at an average of 32.63 and an economy rate of 10.11.

Delhi Capitals Bowled Out for 121 Runs in the Penultimate Over

Delhi struggled from the start of their chase. Stand-in captain Faf du Plessis and KL Rahul were dismissed within the first three overs, leaving Delhi in a difficult position. Mitchell Santner dismantled Delhi’s middle order, taking three wickets for just 11 runs, while Jasprit Bumrah secured three wickets.

Delhi was bowled out for 121 runs in the penultimate over, with Sameer Rizvi top-scoring at 39. Santner removed Rizvi, Vipraj Nigam (20), and Ashutosh Sharma (18). Delhi is out of contention. MI clinched their spot in the playoffs with 16 points, becoming the fourth team to reach the playoffs.
