Donald Trump hosted his South African counterpart, Cyril Ramaphosa, in the White House in yet another controversial moment of his tenure.
During the meeting in the Oval Office, Trump showed what appeared to be newspaper reports showing what he said were the deaths of white farmers in South Africa.
As reporters and Elon Musk watched on, Trump claimed the US had taken in many white farmers allegedly fleeing the country.
While not as heated as his infamous clash with Volodymyr Zelensky, the exchange is yet another high profile moment of Trump’s second tenure.
As Trump sat with Ramaphosa, he complimented South African golfers Retief Goosen and Ernie Els.
Ramaphosa said he wanted to talk about critical minerals and trade in order spark growth in his country’s economy.
But in a surprising turn of events, Trump then played a video which he claimed showed the evidence of the “genocide” against white farmers.

Ramaphosa said he had not seen that before, and that he would like to find out what the location was.
“People are fleeing South Africa for their own safety. Their land is being confiscated, and in many cases, they’re being killed,” said Trump in one of a series of accusations.
Trump then displayed printed copies of articles that he said showed white South Africans who had been killed, saying “death, death” as he flipped through them.
Ramaphosa said there was crime in South Africa, and the majority of victims were Black. Trump cut him off and said: “The farmers are not Black.”
Ramaphosa responded: “These are concerns we are willing to talk to you about.”
A Qatari jet
After showing the news article preporting to show attacks against white farmers, a reporter then asked Trump about being offered a Qatari jet.
The Trump administration accepted a Boeing 747 jet from the Qatari government during last week’s tour of the Middle East. Trump has reportedly directed the air force to assess whether the jet can be quickly upgraded to use as the new Air Force One.
“The Qatari jet, what does that have to do with this,” Trump said following the question.
“They’re giving the US air force a jet and it’s a great thing.
“It’s NBC trying to get off the subject of what you just saw.”
Later he added, pointing at the reporter: “His name is Peter something, he’s terrible.”
Better if it were the G8 with Russia
At the end of the meeting with the South African delegation, Trump moves on to the war in Ukraine.
The US President said he working with both sides to save lives in a war that he said should never have happened.
Trump then added that the war “was helped along” by the previous administration but that he was trying “to save lives”.
Trump was also asked about a Qatari jet that was gifted to the US (AP Photo/Evan Vucci)After praising the two golfers in attendance again, Trump is then asked about the importance of America’s presence at the G20.
Without confirming whether he would attend, Trump says both the G20 and G7 would be meaningless without the US.
“It used to be the G8, but brilliantly they threw Russia out. It would’ve been a lot better if Russia were in,” he said.
“Because if Russia were in you probably wouldn’t have this war and if you had a different President you probably wouldn’t have the war either.
“It’s important the United States is in both of them. Without the US it’s not very important.”
