Natalie Portman Reveals the Hilariously Bizarre Prop She Stole From Star Wars Set

With the significant amount of time they spend on a film set, it's only natural to assume most actors want to exit a film with a special memento that commemorates all the hard work they dedicated to a specific role. Such is especially the case with a movie as universally iconic as Star War be it a lightsaber, a blaster, or a decorative costume piece from a stormtrooper, Jedi or Rebel soldier costume.

More recently, however, Star Wars alumnus Natalie Portman revealed the incredibly niche item she stole from Star Wars' movie set -- something that left more than a few sci-fi fans lifting their eyebrows in confused bemusement.

Appearing on a recent episode of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, the 43-year-old Black Swan actress shed some light on notable props she'd pilfered from past movies set. Along with a customized lighter used by her character in 2016's Jackie, Portman said she'd stolen a very distinct wig from the set of Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones.

"I took one of Anakin's braids from Star Wars," Portman said with a smile, referencing the decorative padawan learner braid warn by Hayden Christensen's character in the film.

"One of his braids?" Colbert responded with a laugh. "Not [Portman's character, Queen Padme] Amida's braids?"

"No, 'cause he had that, like, you know, clip [braid]," Portman said, chuckling. "And there were like 30 of them 'cause he had to have a new one -- you know, a freshie."

Sadly, Portman also told Colbert that she'd since lost the braid, as well as disclosing that she hadn't told Star Wars creator and Prequel Trilogy director George Lucas that she'd stolen the braid from the set.

"I lost it, so I can't give it back," Portman said.

Portman starred in all three of the Star Wars Prequel films, making her debut in The Phantom Menace before continuing on as Anakin Skywalker's key love interest throughout Attack of the Clones and, later, Revenge of the Sith.
