Sorry, but My Fitness Routine Does Need to Look Cute

Working out isn't always the most aesthetically pleasing situation. By the end of my morning gym sesh, I'm fully drenched in sweat, my face flushed as I Google "Has anyone ever died from a Bulgarian split squat?" But over the years, I've noticed that adding aesthetic elements to my fitness routine motivates me to stay consistent. Whether it's a matching workout set or a pretty group fitness studio, these elements help me look forward to my workouts instead of dreading them.

I understand this is a bit of a hot take. On social media, some people express frustrations with aesthetic "influencer gyms," calling out excessive focus on content creation (versus actual workouts) and the sky-high price tags. But building an aesthetic fitness routine doesn't have to break the bank or get in the way of your fitness goals. Just look to "cozy cardio" - a trend that makes at-home cardio exercise less intimidating with the help of dim lighting, comfort movies, and fun drinks. Or even the hot-girlification of what is truly just a plain ol' outdoors walk.

"I've slowly been able to trick my brain into feeling less anxious."

For me, an aesthetic fitness regimen means pink dumbbells and matching apparel sets, a colorful yoga mat and candlelit Vinyasa flow, or long moving meditations re-framed as hot girl walks. But for others, it could mean something totally different. And it's not just about re-creating my Pinterest board; since adding more aesthetic hacks to my fitness routine, I've slowly been able to trick my brain into feeling less anxious and more self-assured. Suddenly, strength training feels a lot more approachable, I'm able to work through some of my gymtimidation, and fitness seems more fun overall.

At the end of the day, an aesthetic fitness routine isn't just about finding better lighting for your gym selfies (although . . . that too). It's about learning how to make the experience more enjoyable for you. If you've grown to enjoy the flickering fluorescent lighting of your box gym, we love that for you. But on the off chance it's not quite cutting it, just know that's also totally valid. Since revamping my own routine, I feel closer to my fitness goals than ever. So yes, I love an aesthetic fitness routine, and I won't be apologizing for it.
