As the IPL 2025 season heads toward its business end, speculations are heating up about Chennai Super Kings (CSK) legend MS Dhoni’s retirement. While official confirmation is still awaited, the door appears wide open for MS Dhoni’s loyal fans to see him in yellow once again in 2026.
Amid the loud chatters, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Vice-President Rajeev Shukla has reignited buzz around Dhoni’s future in the IPL after Chennai Super Kings' crushing six-wicket defeat to Rajasthan Royals in their 13th game of the season on May 20.
After Dhoni’s slow knock of 16 runs off 17 balls against the Rajasthan Royals, many have felt that this could be his final season.
But Shukla doesn’t think so. Despite his sluggish knock, the CSK captain received strong support from the BCCI vice president to continue his IPL journey.

Shukla said that the legendary cricketer still has more cricket left in him, and he tried his best to take CSK to a competitive total.
The BCCI vice president also lauded Rajasthan Royals’ wonder kid Vaibhav Suryavanshi for another superb show with the bat in the tournament.

On the other hand, Abhinav Mukund said that MS Dhoni should play one more season to settle the CSK unit. He stated, “Forget about MS Dhoni’s age; he is still fit to play, and we already witnessed that. I believe MS Dhoni will play one more season because this is the rebuilding phase for Chennai Super Kings.

RR vs CSK IPL 2025 Match Highlights
Meanwhile, Rajasthan Royals finally got it right while chasing, winning their last match of the season with ease, breaking a streak of eight losses in nine chases in the IPL 2025.
Despite their poor record while batting second, RR took the risk again, and this time, it paid off in style as they beat Chennai Super Kings by six wickets with 17 balls left at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.
CSK posted 188 runs on a good batting pitch, thanks to collective efforts from Ayush Mhatre (43 runs off 20 balls), Dewald Brevis (42 runs off 25 balls), and Shivam Dube (39 runs off 32 balls). Chasing the target, Vaibhav Suryavanshi led from the front with a calm and classy 57 off 33 balls.
There was a small hiccup when Ravichandran Ashwin picked up two wickets in the 14th over. But Dhruv Jurel smashed 31* off just 12 balls to finish the game in style, alongside Shimron Hetmyer (12* off 5 balls).
This loss put CSK in danger of finishing last for the first time in their IPL history. They'll now need a big win in their final game against Gujarat Titans to avoid that unwanted record.
