Kathleen Hughes, most recognized for her Scream Queen role in 1953's It Came From Outer Space, has died. She was 96.
The sad news was reported by her friend John Jigen Griffin-Atil, who wrote on Facebook on May 20 to announce, "MY BELOVED FRIEND Kathleen Hughes died last night. My heart is breaking."

He shared some special memories of his time with Hughes, as well as photos of the late actress over the years, calling her a "kind, extraordinary woman."
Born Elizabeth Margaret von Gerkan in Los Angeles, Calif., Hughes broke into the acting industry in the late 1940s when she signed to Fox. Under the studio, she acted in projects like Mother Is a Freshman and Mr. Belvedere Goes to College.
She soon left Fox and signed with Universal, and during this period, she starred in some of her biggest projects. This included the sci-fi hitIt Came From Outer Space, which would gain her great fame for her performance and the iconic promotional photo of her screaming with her hands up.
Other memorable projects included The Golden Blade, The Glass Web, and Three Bad Sisters. She also acted in many landmark TV shows like I Dream of Jeannie and M*A*S*H.
